A club built on community, history, and pride

Astley & Tyldesley Cricket Club has been at the heart of the local community for over a century. Founded in 1921, the club was born in the mining community around Gin Pit, with its roots closely tied to the local colliery and the Miners’ Welfare movement. From the very beginning, the club was about more than just cricket. It was about bringing people together.

Our home, now known as Gin Pit Oval, was developed on land associated with the Gin Pit Workshops. The ground reflects the strong connection between the club and the local mining industry, a link that still shapes our identity today. Much of the ground’s original layout, including the banking, seating, and surrounding facilities, was constructed during the 1926 Miners’ Strike. During a time when regular work was scarce, local tradesmen and pit workers came together to improve the Welfare grounds, creating something that would serve the community for generations to come.

More than 100 years later, that same community spirit remains at the heart of the club. We continue to look forward, always aiming to improve and develop the infrastructure and facilities available to our members and the wider local area. Our focus is on creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where players, families, and supporters feel proud to be part of Astley and Tyldesley Cricket Club.

Through our partnership programme, we are able to do even more. This support helps us grow our junior section and plays a key role in exciting plans such as the launch of a new girls’ section for 2026. These initiatives ensure the future of the club is as strong as its past.

If you would like to be part of our journey and help support our vision for the future of the club, we would love to hear from you.
Please contact Ian on 07801 857169 to find out how you or your business can get involved.

From our mining roots to the modern game, Astley and Tyldesley Cricket Club remains a place where history, community, and cricket come together. 🏏💚
